The Power of Beauty Nowadays, there are many beauty tips claiming to make you a beauty. And then what is the meaning of beauty? Beauty is a quality present in a person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations, something else such as personality. It can be said in another way, "beauty" is a quality of a person, object, place, or idea that can provide a perceptual experience of pleasure, affirmation, meaning, or goodness. The subjective experience of "beauty" often involves the interpretation of some entity as being in balance and harmony with nature. This leads to powerful feelings of attraction and emotional well-being. What is the power of beauty? Beauty presents a standard of comparison, and it can cause resentment and dissatisfaction when not achieved. Beauty has inspired humans throughout history, but the quest for beauty has also led to plastic surgery and eating disorders. Too much emphasis on the superficial beauty can undermine the importance of the inner person. It can become an arbitrary value that leads to social inequity. For example, the good looking students get higher grades from their teachers than students with an ordinary appearance. Furthermore, how much money a person earns may also be influenced by physical beauty. We all like beautiful things and people. But the beauty of a person is not in the clothes one wears, the figure that one carries, or the way one combs her hair. The beauty of a person must be seen from in the eyes, because that is the doorway to the heart, the place where love resides. Sunscreens; Harmful or Helpful by Nadine C. LeGrand
I picked up one of my favorite beauty magazines. After enjoying several
readings in it I discovered an article relating to sunscreens and tanning skin.
It has been a long time since I've read anything relating to this topic. I
encountered using sunscreen over 20 years ago. I have dark but was
convinced to use sunscreen because others told me it was needed to
protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Plus, it looked glamorous.
to apply your sunscreen around the pool and at the beaches. I admit it
seemed odd to me at first. I began to wonder how the sun a much required
element of the earth be so harmful to human skin.
In the past years I've become more familiar with sunscreen use and know if
you don't read up on it you can be lead to believe that all skin types require the
same protection. When it fact they don't. It was in the "reinventingbeauty" CVS
/Pharmacy magazine that I found an article containing information to help me
determined what is best suited for any skin type. It was a complexion chart
giving the impact of the sun on skin listing the suggested SPF formulations to
help avoid sunburn with the sunscreen formula numbers ranging from 2-50+
SPF. The highest number protection used for very fair skin and the lowest
number for very dark skin everything else is in between.
According to the article it was determined by many dermatologists that
sunscreen with the SPF("sun protection factor) numbers 15-30 is the best for
most people. But this applies if your skin sun complexion is considered light
which burns moderately and tans eventually. This leaves you to ask the
question after how long of bathing in the sun that you get a tan eventually,
joined by the skin burning as well. The chart went on to indicate that if your
skin is either Very Fair; always burns easily-never tans, Fair; always burns
easily-tans minimally, again Light; burns moderately-tans eventually, Medium;
burns minimally-always tans well, Dark; rarely burns-tans readily, and Very
Dark; never burns-becomes deeply pigmented. It really helped me to
understand the skin i'm in. To make right decision to use a sunscreen or not
becomes clear and simple once you learn that burning the skin is something
you can do without. Plus, a lot of the sunscreens contain chemical ingredients
that may interact with the sun rays and cause skin irritations. The fact of the
matter is to use your common sense and good judgment to tan responsibly.
